A Review of PTC’s Pro/DESKTOP (June 2002)
In mid May, 2002 TechniCom traveled to PTC Headquarters in Needham, Massachusetts to perform a review of Pro/DESKTOP using our benchmark parts. The result of that visit and additional follow up, is this paper describing the results and our conclusions about the product and where and how it fits in PTC’s product lines. We also had the opportunity to speak with a user of the product.

Autodesk Inventor R4 (January 2001)
Autodesk, on 21 Dec. began shipping Release 4 of Autodesk Inventor, only five months after Release 3 began shipping. Autodesk focused this release on providing better transitions for customers from 2D to 3D. The release includes over 150 enhancements along with DWG file compatibility. Inventor continues its emphasis on rapid learning (called single-day productivity), adaptive technology, and large-assembly modeling. See our assessment of their success in these areas in the review below.

SDRC I-DEAS 8

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to spend a day visiting SDRC at their headquarters in Milford, Ohio. It had been some time since we had a chance to review SDRC's directions and initiatives. Recently SDRC has announced a series of events including: the release of I-DEAS 8, the appointment of a new president, a focus on collaborative product development, and a new organization.

SRAC COSMOS/Works

TechniCom had the opportunity to spend several hours at SRAC, the developers of the COSMOS series of FEA (finite element analysis) software. We were particularly interested in SRAC's design optimization, a modestly priced add on ($1995) to COSMOS/Works.
